Srinagar: Four persons were killed and 28 critically injured in a tragic road accident as a passenger bus fell into a river in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
The accident took place along the bridge of Chenab River as the bus skidded off the road and rolled down into the river.
"The bus was going from Doda to Kishtwar. The accident took place in the afternoon. As per our reports till now, a total 32 passengers were traveling in the bus. 28 passengers who are critically injured, have been admitted to district hospital in Doda. One passenger died in the hospital whereas three others died on the spot," said Harish Mehta District Commissioner, Doda.
Rescue operation is underway, and according to the police officials the accident took place due to over speeding.
However, as per the latest reports seven are killed and 42 others critically injured in the accident.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah expressed shock and grief over the tragic accident.
