BANGALORE: Over 1,500 students are taking part in the two-day youth festival which started on Monday on Central Campus, Bangalore University. The inter-college annual festival, with the participation of over 50 colleges affiliated to the BU, features 26 different competitions, most of which are dance and music based events.“We are looking at 40 of the best performers. They will be consolidated into one team that will represent BU at the South Zone Youth Festival. If they qualify, they will take part in the national level, which will be organised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU),” Dr V Nagesh, coordinator, Department of Performing Arts. “Some of the highlights of the festival are the Rangoli competition, the folk dance, Western group song and classical solo competition,” he said. While the event saw lively participation from the contestants, it was not without its fair share of setbacks, which left many of the participants exasperated.“Honestly this is really bad. We were not given the right timing or the slot and we ended up at the wrong venue,” complained one participant. When questioned about organisational problems, Dr Nagesh said that the students were not misinformed, adding that the students were being given a great opportunity. “Last year, our delegates won at the national level in Western solo and elocution. We also took home the music championship in the South zone level,” he said.
