KOZHIKODE: CPM Politburo member Brinda Karat has strongly criticised the derogatory remarks used by Minister K B Ganesh Kumar and Chief Whip P C George against Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan and CPM leader and former Minister A K Balan. She also demanded that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should initiate action against the UDF leaders for their outrageous comments. Talking to reporters in Kozhikode on Wednesday, Brinda Karat said there was absolutely no justification for using such low remarks against veteran leader Achuthanandan and making a blatant comment on the basis of caste against comrade Balan. “This shows the degeneration of political culture. Either the minister has to resign or Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should take action as such things are becoming more and more common in the UDF. Besides, the comments by the UDF leaders also reflect their attitude, which is anti-Dalit and anti-women,” she said.Brinda Karat said there would be zero-tolerance against those who are accused of sexual harassment, at least in her party. She added that the All India Democratic Women’s Association will go on with agitation till action is mooted against the UDF leaders.Regarding the release of R Balakrishna Pillai from the jail, Brinda said: “It’s a shame that the chief minister of Kerala found it fit and appropriate to release a political leader found guilty by the Supreme Court on November 1, the Kerala Day. Not only Kerala but the whole country is deeply distressed over the UDF government’s approach and it’s an insult to the people of the state. If he can be released, members of SFI who have been jailed for protesting against the government’s false policies should also be released.”
