BANGALORE: Nine-year-old Tejas was delighted when his teachers told him that a picnic had been arranged on Saturday at Residency Holiday Resort near Begur in Nelamangala. But the picnic was no fun but turned fatal as he drowned in the pool.Tejas was a fourth standard student at Mother Teresa English School at T Dasarahalli in Jalahalli. He was the only son of Harish, an autorickshaw driver, and Uma of Dasarahalli.According to police, the school authorities had arranged a picnic to the resort on Saturday and had reached there at around 9 am. There were around 160 students from the school besides 300 students from two other schools. The children, who were allowed to play around the resort, were romping at the ground initially and later reached the swimming pool. At around 1 pm, when the teachers asked the students to come for lunch, Tejas was missing. He was found dead in the pool. The shocked teachers took him to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead.“No one saw how Tejas died.  But preliminary investigations indicate that he was approaching the deep end though the children were asked to keep to the shallow end,” the police added. Nelamangala deputy superintendent of police Chinnaswamy said negligence of resort management and teachers was evident.
