BHUBANESWAR: The alleged caste slur involving an anganwadi worker in Jajpur district has come in handy for the BJP to take on the State Government. The party has threatened to sit on dharna in front of Raj Bhavan if action is not taken against those who reportedly assaulted the Scheduled Caste (SC) anganwadi worker. Announcing this at a media conference here on Sunday, State president of the BJP SC Morcha and former MLA Baidhar Mallick alleged that some BJD workers belonging to general caste entered the anganwadi centre at Manpur village and assaulted Satyabhama Mallick on July 20. They also made caste-related remarks against her, he charged. Satyabhama, who was badly injured, was admitted to the local hospital and later shifted to the SCB Medical, Cuttack. Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, Baidhar said adequate compensation should also be paid to her. A BJP team, led by former minister Bimbadhar Kuanr, visited the village to take stock of the situation. The team members met the parents of Satyabhama, the hospital authorities and the Jajpur Collector. They also addressed a protest meeting, organised by the anganwadi workers of the district, at Jajpur. Baidhar said the BJP will move the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), National Scheduled Caste Commission and National Commission for Women. Rajya Sabha member Rudra Narayan Pani announced that he will raise the issue in Parliament.
