KASARGOD: The BJP retained the Karadka grama panchayat after the election held on Thursday for the new panchayat president. Sujatha Tantri, elected from the Kuntar ward, is the president of the grama panchayat.The election was necessitated after the resignation of BJP’s Jayalakshmi Bhat in protest against the party decision to dissolve the district committee headed by M Narayana Bhat. Jayalakshmi, wife of M Narayana Bhat, had also resigned her membership in the panchayat, reducing the total strength of the BJP to six. The LDF has three members in the grama panchayat while the UDF has five. However, one seat is remaining vacant in the 15-member panchayat.Sujatha Tantri polled six votes against five votes secured by Mohammed Kunhi of the UDF.
