Bill bats for Hillary as US Prez race heats up
Bill Clinton favourably compared Hillary to former US president Lyndon Johnson.

New Delhi: US Presidential aspirant, Barack Obama has roped in none other than Oprah Winfrey to campaign for him. In response, his opponent, Hillary Clinton has fired her best gun — husband and former US president, Bill Clinton.

Bill Clinton was despatched to North Carolina and Iowa, where he favourably compared Mrs Clinton to former US president Lyndon Johnson and Bill clearly left a mark.

Unlike Oprah, he spoke without notes and took questions from the audience and could well help his Senator wife consolidate her double digit national lead over Obama.

Clinton launched a string of college campus appearances on Monday declaring that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has "spent a lifetime as a change agent".

He even said that the ambitious civil rights champion (Hillary) wasn't as broad-minded as the New York senator, Obama, in trying to implement universal health care.

With the race in a dead heat here, both Clintons have focused on Hillary's health care proposal and her attempt in 1993 to overhaul the system.

The former president did not pursue the "character question" against Senator Obama as his wife had begun to do a week earlier.

The Clinton campaign has criticized Obama for encouraging college students to vote at school even if their parents live elsewhere. Clinton did not make a similar appeal (though it might have been irrelevant; the audience was largely filled with adults).

What's your reaction?
