New Delhi: With Uttar Pradesh elections round the corner, ads featuring superstar Amitabh Bachchan have been giving the Congress sleepless nights.
Worried about damage to its poll prospects, the Congress on Tuesday moved the Election Commission, seeking an urgent ban on all advertisements which feature Bachchan and glorify governance in Uttar Pradesh.
The Samajwadi Party Government of Mulayam Singh Yadav has been discretely using Bachchan ads to score brownie points highlighting the achievements of the state under its regime.
On Tuesday, Congress president for UP, Salman Khursheed, demanded that the EC take action against the Samajwadi Party for sponsoring such advertisements.
"Amitabh Bachchan is using harsh words and indulging in false propaganda in the ads," he said.
In a series of advertisements carried out in print and electronic media, Bachchan has been highlighting the achievements of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.
"Uttar Pradesh mein hai dum, kyunki jurm yahan hain kam," the latest advertisement says.
The Congress has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner, he said.
