Bhardwaj resolution: No unsavoury confrontations

BANGALORE: Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj has resolved not to have “unsavoury confrontations” with the state government in 2012. For, he doesn’t see any “substantial confrontation” with the present BJP dispensation headed by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda. “As a Governor, I act as a guide, philosopher and well wisher to the government. I don’t want to start any unsavoury confrontation,” he said, adding that he too expected a “good response from the state government to ensure smooth relations between the Raj Bhavan and Vidhana Soudha”. Ever since the former Union Law Minister was sent to Karnataka Raj Bhavan, he has remained controversial and confronted the government on various issues by openly criticising the style of functioning of the state government and its council of Ministers including the then chief minister B S Yeddyurappa. He even recommended President’s Rule twice in the past.On his change in perception towards the government, he said: “Since my stand on various issues and individuals has been vindicated, there is no point in unnecessarily confronting anyone.” His cooperation with the state government, however, comes with three riders. They include: “The government must take decisions in the interest of the people and the state, it should not suppress or supersede good and efficient officers and more importantly the rule of law must prevail.”“I expect that the new Chief Minister will take steps in this regard,’’ the Governor said.Reacting to the Governor’s New Year resolution, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar said that “it was a music to their ears.’’
