While addressing a rally at Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon in Bastar on Thursday, Sonia Gandhi chided the Raman Singh-led BJP government on issues of security, employment, poverty and governance.
"The Chhattisgarh government only talks big when it comes to security but hardly does anything. Tribals feel unsafe due to the atrocities. The Congress had to sacrifice many leaders due to Naxalism. We miss them," she said.
Assuring help to the tribals who were recently threatened by Maoists to not vote in the upcoming assembly elections, Sonia Gandhi assured of rehabilitation schemes if Congress comes to power.
Further, in a bid to woo people in the BJP stronghold of Bastar, she praised her party for not making hollow commitments. "The Congress party just doesn't make big promises, but delivers also, we have given employment to the poorest of poor," she said.
Advocating the benefits of her party's landmark bills, the Land Acquisition Bill and Food Security Bill, she said that UPA govt decided to get the act for providing not just good compensation but also source of income.
"Progress is needed, but not at the cost of the poor, that is why UPA introduced the new Land acquisition Bill. We have guaranteed you food through the food security scheme,” she said.
"I'm sure you will not believe false promises anymore, and vote for the Congress, and all our candidates will win big," she said while concluding her speech.
