Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Friday asked officials of the state Power Department to purchase adequate electricity to avoid load shedding. Enough power should be purchased to ensure that hours of load shedding are cut down and people do not face inconvenience, Bahuguna told officials at a review meeting of the Department.
The bidding for 90 MW of small hydro power projects must be done within a week in a transparent manner, he said. Department officials informed him that tie-ups till March had been done to buy extra electricity and bidding for April, May and June had been done.
On being informed that a limit on transmitting not more than 350 MW on Meerut- Muzaffarnagar- Roorkee Line has been placed by the Union Government, whereas it had a capacity of 700 MW, the CM said he would make an appeal to the Centre to increase it to 500 MW.
Bahuguna, who also held a review meeting of the forest department, said land should be identified in Pathri and Patharchatta for rehabilitation of Van Gujjar families. A back-up route should also be developed by the forest department to Kedarnath.
