Artistic glory with a knife

MYSORE: There is no limit to finding innovative ways to express ones talent especially if the artist believes in living out of the box. Satyanarayan has a unique style of painting with a knife instead of a brush which has brought out realistic art.Though the main theme of his paintings are tradition and culture, he has broken the traditional way of painting using a paint brush. He instead uses a knife like steel blade fixed with a wooden handle to pain. Originally, Satyanarayan is not an artist. He lost his father during his childhood and due to family responsibilities he discontinued his studies and became a helper for an artist. At the age of 14, he shifted to Bangalore and worked as an assistant to create cinema banners and learnt abstract painting in due course of time. Later, with the help of senior artists like Ramachandran and CV Ambari, he learnt art work and practiced it daily to obtained perfection in his strokes. Now, artist Sathyanarayan is equally good in digital and modelling photography.Speaking to Express, 52-year-old Satyanarayan said, “Though its difficult to reproduce paintings made out of a knife, I prefer this medium.” “Even the works created by me can’t be reproduced again,” he adds.
