BELGAUM: All the 40 activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), who were arrested for ransacking the chambers of the mayor and deputy mayor of the Belgaum City Corporation a couple of days ago, were released on bail on Saturday.The JMFC IVth Court granted them bail in the afternoon paving the way for their release from the prison in the evening.They were welcomed by other members of the KRV in front of the prison and brought to Rani Channamma Circle in a procession with bursting of crackers.Gadinadu Kannada Sena president Sayyad Mansur and other Kannada leaders had tried to obtain bail for the arrested. Police, on November 2, had arrested the activists for ransacking the office chambers of mayor and deputy mayor and also for painting their name-boards for their participation in the black day procession organised by pro-Maharashtra groups on Karnataka Rajyotsava Day on November 1.144 CrPC Around Hindalga PrisonThe Belgaum district administration, on Saturday, imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC around Hindalga prison and Hindalga village from 4 pm on November 5 to 8 am on November 6 on fears that clashes between Kannnadigas and Marathis might erupt, following the release of the Kannada Rakshana Vedike activists, who were arrested for ransacking the mayor’s office.
