This semi-urban general constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 22.57% and a Scheduled Tribe population of 1.25%. The estimated literacy level of Arakkonam is 79.23%. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there were a total of eligible electors and the voter turnout was calculated at %. The seat went to the polls on Phase 2 on Thursday, April 18, 2019.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Hari G of AIADMK won in this seat by defeating the DMK candidate by a margin of 2,40,766 votes which was 22.11% of the total votes polled in the constituency. AIADMK had a vote share of 45.32% in 2014 in the seat. There were a total of 27 contestants in 2014.
