HYDERABAD: A two-judge bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal, comprising chairman P Swaroop Reddy and R Santhanam, on Thursday took on file a petition filed by APSP commandant J Muralidhar, an aspirant to IPS, and directed the authorities concerned to maintain the status quo.The bench issued the interim order after hearing the petitioner’s counsel DV Sitaram Murthy. The application was filed under Section 19 of the Administrative Tribunals Act, 1985. Union home secretary, UPSC secretary, state chief secretary and the DGP are among the 14 respondents.Muralidhar, initially appointed as DSP (state service) and currently working as commandant of APSP’s 5th battalion, faulted the selection process and appointment of some of the respondents to the Indian Police Service (IPS) for the panel year 2009 (11 vacancies) and 2010 (15 vacancies).By virtue of his seniority he was ranked at serial number 4 and yet he was not granted promotion to the IPS while his batch-mates and juniors were classified as good and granted promotion. He further complained that the authorities lost sight of the fact that he worked in important areas.
