HYDERABAD: Tightening the noose around AP State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) former secretary M D Christopher, who faced charges of corruption during his tenure, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) started an inquiry into several irregularities in the functioning of the Council right from 2005. Christopher is a close relative of the late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.Following a petition, the ACB started an inquiry into various purchases made by the Council between 2005 and 2011. The allegations against the Council secretary and five employees include receiving huge kickbacks in releasing notifications for common entrance tests and management quota seats.“There are allegations that purchases of computers, televisions and other equipment were made without following the norms. No tenders had been called for the purchases,” sources said.“We have asked the authorities to give the documents related to the management quota seats but we are yet to receive them,” an ACB official said.Sources said the ACB is conducting a preliminary inquiry into the charges in the petition filed several days ago and yet to come to a conclusion on whether the allegations are true. It is likely to get some clarity on the issue in a week or two after examining documents of the Council. The other officials against whom charges of corruption are levelled include a senior stenographer, an assistant secretary and another employee of the Council.
