Freedom fighters in Andhra Pradesh will celebrate the 150th year of the First War of Indian Independence from May 10.

New Delhi: Freedom fighters in Andhra Pradesh will celebrate the 150th year of the First War of Indian Independence in a befitting manner from May 10, veteran freedom fighter and member of the Committee constituted by the Union Government for the celebrations, Konda Lakshman Bapuji said on Monday.

It was in July 17, 1857, Turr-e-Baz Khan and his other associates became martyrs, fighting the British Residency in Sultan Bazaar in Hyderabad, said Bapuji.

A contingent of freedom fighters from the state, including Rama Rao Doke, B N Reddy, and N B Srihar, would take part in the celebrations at Meerut on May 10 and at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi, the next day, he said.

Celebrations would be organised at the Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad and at Koti to commemorate the attack on the British Residency by Khan and his associates, he said, appealing to all patriots to take part in the celebrations.
