HYDERABAD: The Congress camp is confident of retaining most of the Assembly seats in the ensuing byelections. The ruling party leaders are of the view that the Congress will show impressive performance both in Andhra and Telangana regions.The byelections are imminent as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has decided to file a disqualification petition against the Jagan camp MLAs for voting against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government violating the party whip. Senior Congress leader and former minister JC Diwakar Reddy said if the Congress fielded good and capable candidates in all the constituencies,its poll prospects would be bright in the byelections. He said the YSR Congress could not win all the seats on YSR sympathy. Jagan candidates could give tough fight to the Congress in a few constituencies only. This is the time for strengthening the party network at all levels. After winning the no- confidence motion, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had become very strong in the state politics and he could lead the party in 2014 elections, he said.Tribal welfare minister P Balaraju opined that the forthcoming bypoll results would reflect the mood of the people in the state. However, he said the bypolls were not a referendum on government policies. Jagan could not capitalise on YSR sympathy because the Congress government is continuing all the development programmes and welfare schemes initiated by the former chief minister, he said.PCC official spokesperson and MLA Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy said the Congress would certainly fare well in the forthcoming byelections in Telangana region. In Telangana, several Congress candidates lost their deposits in last elections. After the Banswada bypoll, the political situation in T changed, he said.
