TIRUPATI: Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu emphasised the need for active participation of youth to eradicate corruption and said it is only possible when the mindset of people is changed.Participating in an interaction programme with students of Puttur-based Siddharatha Engineering College, owned by TDP leader Ashok Raj, at a private hotel on Monday, he said the entire world has seen the victory of people’s determination in fight against corruption, led by Anna Hazare.“The Union government had relented and agreed to introduce the Lokpal Bill after the fast-unto-death of Hazare. It is a victory of the people,” he said.Naidu, who answered several questions during the interaction, also explained why the present political instability is a crucial factor for lack of development and what his party intends to do once he comes back to power. He also focused on the need for electoral, political and economic reforms and judicial accountability.“For bringing about a change in the system, the Lokpal and Lokayukta are needed,” he stressed. When a student Srinivas asked about the education sector and what he would do for encouraging youth to join politics, Chandrababu said in India education is more theoretical and there is a need for educational reforms.“Any development is possible only with good investments for improving economic conditions.Politics is where policy-making is done.Hence, it should be corruption-free and more educated youth with clear minds should join politics,” he said. The TDP chief observed the beauty of Indian democracy was aptly demonstrated as when all wings of democracy looked weak, civil society raised its voice and saw what it had set out to do was achieved. He said Manmohan Singh is a good economist but his silence had become a curse for India.“He is capable but is silent and never got elected in a direct election and other Congress leaders like Chidambaram, Pranab Mukherjee and Kapil Sibal have no public support,” Naidu added. When a student Reshma asked about investment, he said due to the political instability, no one is interested in investing in AP.“Unless our credibility increases, we face a bleak future,” he said.
