BANGALORE: Bangalore will be one of the few cities in the country where the ashes of the architect of the Constitution, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar, will be placed. This will be at a new museum proposed in Bangalore, fully dedicated to Ambedkar.Dr B R Ambedkar Research Institute is ready to set up the museum on 34x68 metres space at Ambedkar Bhavan located at Vasanthnagar in the city. The research institute has prepared a draft and sought Rs 95.90 lakh from Dr Ambedkar Memorial Trust. V H Rangangoudar, director of Dr B R Ambedkar Research Institute said, “The museum will be on par with all the national museums of Dr Ambedkar in the country. Technical Consultancy Organisation of Karnataka have made three models for the museum which have been forwarded to National Institute of Design for final approval.”By this April, on the occasion of his 121st birth anniversary, the photo gallery with about 600 pictures of Ambedkar will be launched. Ambedkar’s family members have agreed to inaugurate it and have spared a part of sacred ash of Ambedkar, added Rangangoudar.Deputy director of the institute,Basavaraj said, “We have sought pictures of Ambedkar during his visit to Bangalore. The institute has got photographs of Dr Ambedkar during his visit to Bangalore to meet Kengal Hanumathaiah, the then chief minister of Mysore. Rare collections of Ambedkar with special stress to Karnataka are being sought to be kept in the museum.”The museum will also have a library with books and speeches of Ambedkar. A small audio-visual section where documentaries collected from the Films Division of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will be screened for the visitors. Ambedkar in his last days embraced Buddhism. The institute has already set up a Budda Vihar at the museum. Sources said that the members will pressurise the state government to declare the museum as a state monument.
