It's not just people but the animals in the wild who are reeling under the intense heatwave that has swept UP and other northern states. Considering the plight of the animals, the Amangarh Tiger Reserve authorities have taken special measures for providing water to them.

Nine new tanks have been constructed inside the reserve to provide adequate water to the animals. Bordering the world-famous Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand, the reserve is home to tigers, elephants and a wide variety of other animals.

The Reserve already has natural ponds, but it is now being provided with nine new ponds to provide relief to the animals in the extreme hot and dry conditions, Ranger Sunder Singh said. Even if it does not rain for another month, the ponds can be filled with the help of water tankers, he said.

Declared a tiger reserve earlier this year, proper security is also in place, he said. There is a night patrol team and security guards are always on duty in Bijnor, Singh said. Temperatures in Uttar Pradesh and other north Indian states have been hovering over 45 degree Celsius.
