Mumbai: After chargesheeting 13 accused in Adarsh Housing Society scam, CBI is now shifting its focus on 'benami' owners of flats and the agency claimed the name of a senior politician had surfaced.
Sources said an extensive probe has been conducted into the case and certain details have been shared with the Enforcement Directorate to ascertain the money trail into the benami transactions.
CBI included Section 3 of Benami Transactions Act on the order of the Bombay High Court on February 17 last year as the agency found that certain 'influential' people owned benami flats in the society.
CBI is probing 'benami' transactions relating to 24 of the 103 flats in Adarsh Housing Society and has sought permission from the court to continue with the investigations into the matter after filing the chargesheet against 13 people including former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan.
According to sources privy to the probe, the name of a senior politician had surfaced in the benami transactions of at least two flats but there was no money trail, which was hampering the investigations.
The sources said statements of at least three witnesses, who are also accused, did show about the actual ownership of the benami flats the politician.
They said an additional chargesheet will be filed on benami property within three months.
Enforcement Directorate has already filed Enforcement Case Information Report against Chavan and 13 under money laundering act in the Adarsh housing scam.
