New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal has emerged as the giant killer of Delhi politics. It's a remarkable feat to achieve for a party whose political history is hardly one year old. The spectacular debut of Aam Aadmi Party in electoral politics is almost like a scripted scene from a film.
May be some realistic filmmaker would like to make a film on the emergence of a powerful anti-BJP, anti-Congress outfit in future, but there was one director who made a similar film in 2004.
The film was 'Yuva' and it was directed by acclaimed director Mani Ratnam. For those who are more interested in 'Yuva', it was co-produced by Shekhar Kapur.
'Yuva' was based in the city of Kolkata, which was shown as a politically aware city. There some heavy-weight politicians, in a bid to retain the power, apply all sorts of techniques to stop the righteous candidates from achieve the seat of power.
However, a group of students led by Michael Mukherjee (Ajay Devgn) decides to take on the morally corrupt people. In the beginning, they face opposition from within the student community, but slowly and steadily the momentum starts to shift in their favour.
After a thrilling election campaign, Michael and his team of young candidates win 4 seats and enter the Legislative Assembly for the first time. This was shown as a metaphor that some newcomers are ready to take on the shrewd politicians.
AAP's performance is very similar to the film's climax because it hasn't got the absolute majority, but is ready to make it presence felt.
