A one stop food haven

BANGALORE: In our quest to find delightful food havens for food lovers, we landed up at this relatively new restaurant, Kukkare, nestled in the up and happening Koramangala.Going by the name this place has earned in a short span, I was curious to dig into some sumptuous delicacies.What totally bowled me over was Kukkare’s variety.The place is literally a onestop place for foodies who are partial to Karnataka flavours — North Karnataka, Malnad, coastal Karnataka, Coorg you name it and the restaurant has an authentic dish unique to that part of Karnataka along with homemade vegetarian and non vegetarian thalis.Intrigued by the name of the restaurant, which means ‘mushroom’ in Malnad, I decided to try as many dishes as I could.Must say, the claims made by Mr and Mrs Srichandra, the brains of Kukkare, were 100 per cent true.The authentic fares right from the Mangalorean specialty Neer Dosa, to Tandoor chicken to the traditional Kaai Kadabu and Akki Roti and Bassaru were a delight to the tongue and tummy.Their special Karnataka style Dum- Ki Murg deserves a special mention, Srichandra shared the secret of Kukkare’s specialty, “One of our signature dishes is the Dum ki Murg, The uniqueness of this dish is that it is marinated and cooked on three different levels, soaking the meat completely in spices and the dry-fruit masala, made specifically for Dum-Ki Murg.So when you take a bite into the meat, each piece brings in a new flavor and different taste.” The secret of these flavours according to Srichandra is the homemade masala they use for each dish.He says, “None of the spices and masalas are processed or bought from outside.Also, we don’t use artificial colours and flavours.” The Chinese cuisine and North Indian tadkas on offer are also delectable and as authentic as promised.Another biggest plus of this place is its high hygiene standards.The simple, nondescript ambience and the big windows add warmth and simplicity to this food haven.In short, Kukkare boasts of taste, quality, simple ambience, hygiene and prompt services making it a perfect restaurant.This great experience also comes at an affordable price and is a good place for large family, private and official parties.Next time you want a slice of authentic flavours and wish to treat your taste buds, visit Kukkare for a quick bites or elaborate fares.
