HYDERABAD: The Union ministry for health and family welfare will provide financial assistance to establish seven ANM schools at Tirupati, Kakinada, Eluru, Narsapuram, Ongole, Vijayawada and Karimnagar during the 11th plan period.The Union minister for health & family welfare addressed a letter to the chief minister and MPs regarding the strengthening and upgradation of nursing schools and colleges in the state.The Centre has been implementing a scheme to strengthen and upgradate nursing schools and colleges under which central financial assistance will be provided during the XI Five- Year Plan.The state government, immediately after receipt of the letter from the Centre, has directed the commissioner of family welfare to take immediate action.Under the scheme, the state is entitled to seven ANM (auxiliary nursing & midwifery) and seven GNM (general nursing & midwifery) schools as part of the 132 ANMs and 137 GNMs to be set up in the 269 districts in the country.The cost of the schools and the staff to be shared between the Centre and the state in 85-15 ratio.The necessary budget has already been provided during 2012-13 in the current Action Plan of the NRHM.
