New Delhi: Concluding a protest demanding an early passage of the Women's Reservation Bill, Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi on Monday said 50 percent reservation in Parliament will be her next demand to ensure justice to women.
She said she would continue to protest in several other ways until the bill, which aims to secure a 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament as well as in the state legislatures, gets sanctioned.
"We want the bill to be passed either during the current or the next session of Parliament. Until then, we would not stop raising our voice," said Kanimozhi, who is also the DMK's women's wing secretary.
"Getting 50 percent reservation for women will be our ultimate goal to achieve equality in the society that lets men decide on women's right to live, move and education," she said. Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury, who also offered support to the protest, accused the Narendra Modi-led Central government of "sitting on the bill".
MPs Supriya Sule of the NCP, T K Rangarajan of the CPI(M), D Raja of the CPI and Tiruchi Siva and T K S Elangovan of the DMK also joined the protest attended by a large number of women cadre of the DMK.
"The BJP manifesto also promised to pass the bill, but they are not doing anything about it. The bill has support from all the parties, including those who want small amendments in it," Kanimozhi said.
