20,000 rescued from flood-hit areas of Jammu & Kashmir, says Army
Army has deployed 205 columns of its personnel for rescue and relief operations.

Srinagar: With massive relief and rescue operations underway, as many as 20,000 people have been rescued so far from flood-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir, said Army on Monday.

Pumping up the morale of security personnel, Army chief Dalbir Singh said, "Indian Army will not move back to the barracks till the last man is brought to safety."

Army has deployed 205 columns of its personnel for rescue and relief operations. They have distributed 4,000 blankets and 90 tents and established 16 relief camps. The Army also distributed 23,000 litre of water and 600 kilograms biscuits in the flood-affected areas. 60 medical teams of the Armed Forces Medical Services have also swung into action. Another 5,000 people have also been rescued by NDRF.

The Indian Navy too has now joined the massive rescue operation being carried out by the Army, Indian Air Force, NDRF and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The Naval Marine Commandos deployed in Jammu and Kashmir have rescued around 200 personnel at Haigaon on the Srinagar-Sopore highway.
