Food safety officials closed down the baking unit and two outlets of bakery chain Ambrosia in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday after a customer found a ‘cockroach’ embedded inside a chocolate muffin.
The complaint was filed by Suresh Balraj who lives at Cordial Emerald Apartments, Ulloor. He had
bought the muffins from the Pattom outlet of Ambrosia on Saturday. “We had a party and I bought a dozen muffins for Rs 200. All except two were eaten yesterday,’’ Suresh Balraj said. On Sunday morning, Suresh had
taken one and on breaking it into two, he found ‘a full cockroach’ inside it. Food Safety officials, on being alerted, called on him to collect the ‘evidence.’ Soon after, they raided Ambrosia’s Pattom and Bakery Junction outlets and sealed them. They raided the baking unit of the chain at Bakery Junction and sealed it on grounds that it was operating in unhygienic conditions.
