MYSORE: The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge sentenced 18 persons to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 29,000 on them under different sections of IPC for kidnapping and murdering 51-year-old widow Gangamma.Judge HS Kamala pronounced the judgment and acquitted accused number-12 Shankar, who turned approver and surrendered voluntarily on the day of the incident. The 18 convicted include Mantelingaiah (accused number 1), the then state president of Akhila Bharatha Janajagruthi Mahasabha and his wife Vikashini (accused number 25). Four accused are absconding and two have died during the trial. According to investigation officer GN Mohan, the accused had kidnapped Gangamma on November 17, 2005 and murdered her five days later.
