GUNTUR: More than 1,000 people are suffering from viral fevers in the Peddaparami village of Tuluru mandal in the district. The district medical and health officer Gopi Naik K visited the village on Wednesday and gave instructions to medical officers to take immediate steps to control the situation.
Around 100 viral fever patients were admitted to local medical camps. Besides many patients were also shifted to Guntur and nearby hospitals for treatment. The medical and health department collected blood samples and sent them to Guntur Medical College.Lack of sanitation and contaminated water are believed to be the causes for spreading of viral fevers in the village. Villagers alleged that the grama panchayat had not taken initiative to improve sanitation and the Rural Water Supply department failed to supply pure drinking water.
