Police on the trail of Union Minister Alagiri’s son Durai Dayanidhi and the other accused in the illegal granite case have alleged “difficulties” in their hunt, owing to the high profile and ‘influence’ of the accused.
“We have some difficulties in arresting the accused as they are big sharks and also have connection with powerful politicians. Taking into account that Durai Dayanidhi is the son of a Union Minister, police could not move into the Minister’s houses in Delhi, Madurai and other places,” an official explained.
A total of 10 teams have been formed to arrest the accused, including Durai Dayanidhi, P Senthilkumar, P Sureshkumar and P K Selvaraj.
Meanwhile, the Madurai Bench has adjourned the hearing on a writ petition filed against the sealing of factories belonging to PRP Exports and PRP Granites.
The petitioner, P Suresh Kumar, a partner in both the firms and the son of the firm’s shareholder P Palanichamy, now in police custody, filed the writ plea seeking a direction to cops to allow them to open their factories and resume quarrying operations in the 55 licensed sites in Madurai.
The petitioner contended that the Madurai Collector and the SP sealed their units, and other equipment, and abruptly suspended their operations. Considering the welfare of the employees of PRP Exports and PRP Granites, the police should be directed to unseal the premises, the petitioner said.
When the case came up on Monday, Additional AG K Chellapandian sought more time to get instructions, following which, the case was adjourned to October 5.
