How to Use a Charcoal Iron
Charcoal irons, or coal irons, as the name suggests, are irons that hold embers from wood or coal fires. They are difficult to use and require some technical know-how when it comes to not smudging the clean clothes or avoiding getting burned by stray ashes.
Steps

Gather your materials. First, you need to get all of the following materials together: A piece of clothing to iron, such as jeans or a t-shirtUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet1.jpg A charcoal iron and standUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet2.jpg A pack of charcoalUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet3.jpg A box of matchesUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet4.jpg A bottle of keroseneUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet5.jpg A spray bottleUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet6.jpg An ironing tableUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet7.jpg A manual blower such as a silver plate, fan, or BBQ blowerUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet8.jpg A small stickUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet9.jpg Two pieces of wrapper or old bed sheetsUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet10.jpg An outdoor location/ apartment balcony A bottle of water/ bucket of waterUse a Charcoal Iron Step 1Bullet12.jpg

Set up your ironing table in your outdoor location. Preferably, in the backyard of your house, or balcony of your apartment.

Cover your clothing by tying a wrapper around it. Use an old bed sheet if you don’t have one. This is to protect your clothing from soot, and/or smoke.

Take off the top of your iron, and add the charcoal inside the iron. Make sure to add enough charcoal to reach the brim.

Shake it away from your table. You should do this because small pieces of charcoal may fall out during ironing and will dirty your fabric. You can also use your stick to mix the charcoal so that small pieces can fall out. Using your mouth, blow out excess particles.

Pour some kerosene, using the cap of the bottle. Only pour droplets of kerosene, or else all of your clothes will smell like it. You can also use the spray bottle instead.

Light it up, using your matches. A small fire should catch right where the kerosene was poured. Allow it to burn for a little bit.

Put your other sheet/ wrapper over the ironing table and arrange your fabric to be ironed.

Carry the iron a little ways from the table and start blowing on the charcoal with your mouth. You can also fan the flame using the silver plate when you are tired. Use your small stick to mix the charcoal around to make sure all the pieces are getting hot. You can also close the lid, secure the small rooster, and then swing it from side to side, allowing the breeze to help blow it.

Open the iron again. When you open it up again you should see glowing embers of charcoal. At that point, you can close it up, wipe the bottom on the wrapper/ sheet on the ironing table.

Place the iron on the ironing stand. Wash your hands properly, and then start ironing. Run the iron back and forth along your clothes until they are crisp and wrinkle-free.

What's your reaction?
