How to Fish in Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Get the Fishing Rod

Play the game until you wake up in the morning to get the fishing rod.

Once you wake up, you'll walk into town and talk to the guy on the stone pillar. He'll tell you to climb up the ivy, which you should do.

Once you're on the pillar with him, you should jump across the platforms and the roof of the house until you're on the final pillar. there should be some grass growing here.

Pick the grass and hit 'a' to blow. this will call a hawk down.

aim your hawk toward the jumping monkey all the way down the river, then release it. It will fly to the monkey and take a baby cradle out of its hands.

Once you have the cradle, jump back down and run the opposite direction down the river. you'll see a woman standing by the river. Give her the cradle, and she'll lead you to her house and give you the fishing rod her son made for you.

Catch a Fish

Run over to the dock where you saw the cat trying to fish before. This spot is good because it is rich with fish.

Once you're there, hold down '-' and set the fishing rod.

Now you can cast the fishing rod. throw the Wii remote forward to cast the line.

Once the fly is in the water, you'll have to wait a while. If it moves suddenly down, jerk the remote up. If you caught a fish, hold the remote upright to wind it in. If not, just cast the line again to try again.

The first fish you catch should be a greengill. It will be marked in your log and then be set free again.

Get the Fishing Bait

If you want to catch better, bigger fish, you'll need some bait. There is an easy way to get some free bait at the beginning of the game.

Catch another fish without bait. this time, when you catch it, the cat will steal it and run away. FOLLOW THE CAT!!!

Once you get to the place where the cat went inside, go in the door. You'll now be in the shop.

If you talk to the shopkeeper, she'll tell you how happy she is that her cat came home and give you a bottle of milk for free.

Go back outside and drink the milk. Now you have an empty bottle.

Climb back up the stone pillar where the guy was sitting. Pick some of the grass from this first pillar, and once your hawk comes, aim it at the hornet's nest in the big tree. The hawk will knock down the nest for you.

Jump down and run over to where the nest fell. there will be some hornet's larvae on the ground there.

Pull out your empty bottle, and scoop up some larvae with it. You can use this as fishing bait or to gain back hearts.

Catch Better Fish

Catch some better fish now that you have bait.

Swim down to the end of the river where the monkey was jumping before. There's a little spot of land where you can climb up.

Pull out your rod and attach the bait. Cast your line, and pull it up when you see a tug again.

Since you have the bait, you should catch a better fish! If not, you can always try again.
