Obtaining Prismarine Crystals
Prismarine Crystals drop as mob loot. Guardians and Elder Guardians can drop Prismarine Crystals upon defeat. Guardians are aquatic enemy mobs that spawn around ocean monuments. Elder Guardians are a stronger variant of the Guardian, and they can also be found in ocean monuments. Guardians have a 40% chance of dropping a Prismarine Crystal as loot. Elder Guardians have a 33% chance of dropping a Prismarine Crystal as loot.
Prismarine Crystals can be mined from Sea Lanterns. Sea Lanterns are found in ocean monuments and underwater ruins. If you break a Sea Lantern while using a tool that does not have Silk Touch, you will get 2 to 3 Prismarine Crystals. If you have the Fortune enchantment, you can get up to 5. If you break a Sea Lantern with a Silk Touch tool, you'll get a Sea Lantern and not the crystals.
Prismarine Crystals naturally generate in buried treasure chests. You can find buried treasure chests on beaches or the ocean floor. In Java Edition, you have a 59.9% chance to find Prismarine Crystals in a buried treasure chest, and you can find anywhere from 1 to 5 crystals in the chest. In Bedrock Edition, you have a 18.9% chance to find Prismarine Crystals in a buried treasure chest, and you can find anywhere from 1 to 5 crystals in the chest.
Prismarine Crystal Usage
Prismarine Crystals are used to make Sea Lanterns. To make a Sea Lantern, you will need 5 Prismarine Crystals and 4 Prismarine Shards. Prismarine Shards can also be obtained from Guardians and Elder Guardians. To make a Sea Lantern, place a Prismarine Shard in each of the four corners of a 3x3 crafting grid, then fill the remaining 5 spots with Prismarine Crystals.
