Indian national Hockey Team star Hardik Singh, who was part of the bronze-winning Paris 2024 Olympics unit revealed that the medal the athletes received for their accomplishment wasn’t of good quality as it has seemingly lost its sheen within a couple of months of the conclusion of the event.
The medals for the Summer Games in the French capital city have a piece of metal from the famous landmark of the Parisian city, the Eiffel Tower, included in them, however, the quality of the medal has not held up the hockey player revealed.
“The medal had iron from the Eiffel Tower, we were told, I hope its true,” Singh stated in a podcast recently.
“They had one job of making a good quality medal which is not the case,” he said.
Despite the medal losing its sheen, Singh asserted that managing to find a place on the podium at the sporting extravaganza has been his biggest achievement so far.
“No problem. Still, I would say this is my biggest achievement,” he added.
The bronze at the quadrennial extravaganza in Paris was India’s second on the trot following the third place finish they registered at the Tokyo Olympics, and Singh jested that he was used to the feeling of clinching an Olympic medal.
“I am used to the feeling,” he laughed.
He also revealed that he has an unfinished tattoo of the Olympic rings, which he intends to complete after clinching the gold medal for the nation.
“I have also made tattoo of the Olympic rings. I have kept it incomplete. My wish is when I win the gold medal next time, I will complete it,” he said.
Singh also reflected on a recent awkward moment at the airport when people flocked to snap a picture with internet celebrity Dolly Chaiwala, ignoring the hockey stars.
“I saw it with my own eyes, at the airport. Harmanpreet Singh, I, Mandeep Singh, there were 5-6 of us. Dolly Chaiwala was also there. People were getting themselves clicked with him and did not recognize us. We started looking at each other,” he said contemplating the nation’s obsession with internet sensations.
