Rome: Fabio Quagliarella scored twice and had another clear goal not given by the referee in Juventus' 3-1 win at Catania in Serie A on Sunday.
Simone Pepe put Juventus in front in the 35th minute in Sicily, but Japan forward Takayuki Morimoto equalized two minutes later before Quagliarella took over.
First, in the 43rd, the Italy striker banged in a shot off the crossbar and down over the goal line. But after consulting with his linesman, the referee ruled it was not a goal. However, replays clearly showed the ball landed over the line and inside the goal.
The decision was reminiscent of when Frank Lampard was denied a goal for England against Germany at this year's World Cup.
Quagliarella responded by scoring an undisputed goal a minute later with an angled shot from within the area following a cross from Vincenzo Iaquinta, who also set up Pepe's score.
Then in the 58th, Quagliarella caught the goalkeeper out of position and launched a long-range shot for his eighth goal this season.
The victory kept Juventus within six points of Serie A leader AC Milan.
Milan leads with 33 points, Lazio is next with 30, Juventus has 27 and Napoli 24.
Milan beat Brescia 3-0 Saturday, Lazio defeated struggling Inter Milan 3-1 on Friday, and Napoli hosts southern rival Palermo on Monday.
Earlier, Hernan Crespo scored twice for Parma in a 2-1 win over Udinese, raising his Serie A career total to 150 goals.
The former Argentina international converted a penalty in the 24th minute and then restored Parma's lead with a sharply angled header in the 55th before exiting with an apparent muscle injury.
Antonio Di Natale had equalized for Udinese with a free kick in the 35th, his ninth score of the season — tying him for the league lead with Inter's Samuel Eto'o and Napoli's Edinson Cavani.
The 35-year-old Crespo began his Serie A career with Parma in 1996 and has also played for Lazio, Inter, Milan and Genoa in the top Italian league. Having returned to Parma in January, he has six goals this season.
"That's a lot (of goals). ... I remember them all, one by one," Crespo said of his career total. "The secret is having a lot of passion and desire to play. And it's been nice for me to come back to my home in Parma.
Parma coach Pasquale Marino called Crespo "a perfect role model."
The victory — Parma's third in its last five games — moved the central Italian club six points clear of the relegation zone.
"I'm happy for the team, because a couple months ago we were in last place," Crespo said.
Elsewhere, Stefano Guberti scored twice for Sampdoria in a 3-0 win over 10-man Bari, moving the Genoa club into a tie for fifth with Palermo, Inter and AS Roma — with 23 points each.
Also, Adrian Mutu scored his first goal since returning from a nine-month doping ban in Fiorentina's 1-0 win over Cagliari, handing Roberto Donadoni his first loss since taking over the Sardinian club.
"Today was one of the best days of 2010. Fortunately this year ends soon," Mutu said, dedicating the goal to the fans that supported him during the ban.
Genoa came back from a goal down to win 3-1 at Lecce with scores from Luca Toni, Andrea Ranocchia and Marco Rossi (90); and Bologna beat regional rival Cesena 2-0 with goals from Marco Di Vaio and Miguel Britos.
The Italian Players' Association has called for a strike next weekend to protest the league's proposed new collective contract. Serie A president Maurizio Beretta and Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete held talks Sunday to outline their strategy in hopes of averting the strike.
"Maybe there are more important things we can discuss — such as the state of the stadiums in Italy — and take some more time before (striking)," Crespo said
