Mohamed Salah is reportedly confirmed to be shifting his base to Saudi Arabia this winter. Since the opening of the January transfer window, the Liverpool forward has been in the news, with fans speculating his future. As per his current contract with the Reds, Salah is slated to stay with the club till mid-2025 while earning £350,000 per week. It was earlier reported that the footballer might sit with the Liverpool hierarchy soon to discuss the idea of extending his contract. However, a recent report by Fichajes has claimed that Salah is close to “accepting a million-dollar offer” from a Saudi Pro League club.
During the summer window, Saudi club Al-Ittihad created a stir in the transfer market when they shelled out a staggering offer for Salah. They even reportedly agreed on personal terms with the Egyptian forward. However, the deal worth up to £150 million eventually collapsed after Liverpool refused to release Salah, the Guardian reported.
Al-Ittihad might have now come up with a better offer as they have been keen to secure the signing of Salah for a prolonged period. However, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Al-Hilal is another Saudi outfit that is also interested in the services of Salah.
The table toppers have reportedly contacted the footballer’s entourage as well to negotiate the deal. Al-Hilal signed Neymar Jr from Paris Saint Germain last summer. If they manage to snap up Salah this time, it will no doubt bolster their attack.
In December last year, Saudi Pro League director of football Michael Emenalo expressed his admiration for Mohamed Salah, labelling the 31-year-old as his “personal favourite”. During an interaction with Sky Sports, Emenalo said, “If Mo Salah is available, has the interest to come and everything is aligned, I would be incredibly delighted.”
Salah is now out on national duty, representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations. His absence has certainly made the task difficult for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to prepare a balanced starting lineup. In his 20 Premier League appearances this season, Salah has netted 14 goals, while providing 8 assists. Since joining Liverpool in 2017, the left-footed winger has won as many as seven major trophies including the Champions League in 2019.
