Spanish club Atletico Madrid have added experienced goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia to their squad for the upcoming season after they signed the veteran from Deportivo La Coruna for an undisclosed fee, the official UEFA website reported on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old 'keeper will be with Atletico under a one-year contract and in direct competition with the team's established custodian Thibaut Courtois for a spot in the starting XI. "You can imagine how happy I am to have come to such a big club," Aranzubia said. "I know Atletico already have a great goalkeeper but I have come here to work and to compete in order to help the team. I'm really looking forward to getting started."
Aranzubia joined Deportivo in 2008 after 194 La Liga appearances during his 10 years at Athletic Bilbao. He was also part of the Spain squad at UEFA EURO 2004 in Portugal.
