New Delhi: Pablo Aimar, one of the biggest surprises of Diego Maradona's Argentina squad to confront two decisive World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay, expressed his delight to have been recalled to the national team.
The Benfica playmaker affirmed that Argentina don't have a saviour, but that is what he referred to Maradona as during his playing days.
"Since Diego stopped playing for the national team we haven't had a saviour," said Aimar.
When he arrived in Ezeiza on Monday, Aimar also thanked the praise he received from Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, who said that he would like to play with him.
"For him to have said that fills me with pride. There's no other word to define my gratefulness."
'The Clown' admitted that he was "surprised" with the call-up and that he ''didn't expect it even if I was passing through a good moment," with Benfica.
"I'm overjoyed and to return at a moment when things aren't good is a very big task."
Finally in reference to the matches against Peru and Uruguay Aimar stated that "the objective is to qualify for the World Cup. What we have to do is qualify even if it is via the playoff, or if not (but directly) even better."
