Malvi Malhotra REACTS As Producer Who Stabbed Her Gets Imprisonment After 4 Years: 'I Went Through...' | Exclusive
Malvi Malhotra lauds Hema Committee Report but asserts women should also stand up against harassment. She discusses 'mental trauma' after 2020 stabbing mishap.

In 2020, Malvi Malhotra sustained injuries in her stomach when she was stabbed thrice by producer-stalker Yogesh Singh in Mumbai. In her words, the knife incision in her stomach was about 1.5 inches and what started with a professional meeting turned into him proposing her marriage. Over time, the producer kept harassing her by messaging and stalking. After four years, following a legal case, Malvi received justice against Yogesh, who was found guilty of the attempt to murder her.

A Sessions Court in Mumbai, last week, convicted and sentenced Yogesh to three years of rigorous imprisonment. Speaking to News18 exclusively, Malvi says, “There’s finally a sense of relief. I’ve been fighting for the last four years. There was so much pressure and a lot of disturbances. But the truth finally came out. There was a lot of mental trauma I went through. More than the physical scars, it was the mental agony that impacted me.”

Following the incident, Malvi recalls how it took her ‘months to leave the fear behind’. “It was very difficult initially. I used to be extremely scared. I constantly felt like someone was following and chasing me. But my family, especially my dad, helped me. He told me that physical injuries would heal but I shouldn’t live my life with fear. He told me to learn self-defense and forced me to step out of the house and go shopping or do something else that makes me happy. I finally understood that it’s an episode that won’t happen over and over again and that I should come out of it,” she elaborates.

However, Malvi says she never had to take therapy and she credits her father for it. “This incident was a learning and taking that, I can now move ahead. I never took any therapy. I’m spiritually very inclined. That’s the only form of therapy that helped and motivated me. It’s only because of that and my strong willpower that took me out of this situation. Additionally, my dad counselled me a lot. He helped me improve my mental health,” she states.

Malvi had earlier revealed that Yogesh wanted to injure her face but instead stabbed her right hand when she used it to cover her face. “At that time, my mind was very alert and I was trying to protect my face. I knew that recovering from a face injury is difficult, especially for an actor. It’s God who helped me in that situation. During such moments, one tends to lose their ability to think but thankfully, I was alert and defended myself in the right way,” she tells us.

Though glad with the announcement of the Hema Committee Report that protects women’s rights and dignity against harassment, Malvi believes that women should also take a stand for themselves.

“The initiatives being taken are in favour of women to help them. But individually too, women shouldn’t tolerate any nonsense and be vocal about the wrong they face. It’s a personal choice but you just can’t deal with these things and not speak about them. If you get scared, people will try to scare you more,” she says.
