The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is going to release the matriculation results soon. The class 10 board examination in West Bengal was conducted from February 2 to 12.
Following the announcements of the secondary school results, the qualifying students will be choosing the subjects that they wish to study further in Classes 11 and 12. However, this becomes difficult for most of the students as they get confused about which subject will be beneficial for them.
There is no division of the subjects in Bengali medium until secondary class. Till Class 10, the students study Bengali, English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Life Science and Physical Science subjects. After passing the matriculation examination, students are divided into three categories Science, Arts, and Commerce in the higher secondary school. Ahead of the board’s announcement, a teacher has explained in detail about opting for any subject in the higher secondary level.
A teacher from Deula Bapuji Siksha Sadan, Medinipur, Swapan Ghosh has discussed the subjects that can be chosen when promoted to higher secondary.
He mentioned that the students who are interested in studying in the medical or engineering department can study science. On the other hand, those who want to go into teaching or other professions can study various subjects in the arts department and the ones aiming to go into the management and accounting sectors can pursue commerce. Ghosh also mentioned that all the subjects have their value and choosing any of them would be beneficial.
From this academic year 2024-25, examinations and studies will be conducted in the semester system in higher secondary, as per the recent syllabus revision. Also, several subjects of Artificial Intelligence and Computers have been added from this academic year.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal board has also discontinued subjects like Punjabi, Gujarati and French due to the decreasing number of student enrollment in recent years.
