The historic Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh will be inaugurated on January 22 in a grand ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several prominent personalities will attend the consecration ritual. To mark the occasion the central government declared a half-day holiday across its offices to allow devotees to “participate in the celebration”. As per the government notification, the central government offices will begin the work at 2.30 pm on Monday. Following the central government’s notice, many other states have declared holidays for their offices as well as educational institutes. Here is a list of states that have declared holiday on January 22.
Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh, where Ayodhya is situated, was the first state to declare the holiday on January 22. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the closure of all educational institutions in the states. The liquor shops will also be closed across the state on January 22.
Madhya Pradesh
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav declared a school holiday for next Monday. Just like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh will also observe a dry day. All liquor outlets and Bhang shops have been directed to be closed on January 22. The Chief Minister wrote on X, “Keeping in view the public sentiments, we have decided that January 22 will be a dry day in the state. All types of shops including liquor, and Bhang outlets will remain closed.”
Goa
The Goa state government has declared a holiday for government employees as well as schools on January 22.
Chhattisgarh
The Chhattisgarh government has announced January 22 as a holiday for all state government schools and colleges to mark the inauguration of Ram Mandir. Minister Brijmohan Agrawal announced the holiday while highlighting the significance of the event. Agrawal also announced a weekly train service to Ayodhya to further commemorate the temple’s opening.
Haryana
The Haryana government announced the closure of schools on January 22. Additionally, the liquor consumption is banned on the day of the consecration ceremony.
Assam
On January 18, the Assam state government announced a half day for all government offices and educational institutions. The work day will start at 2:30 pm on January 22.
Rajasthan
Rajasthan government has declared a half-day holiday in the state. As per Hindustan Times, Union Minister Kanhaiya Lal Choudhary said that he has sent a request to the chief minister to make it a full-day leave on January 22.
Tripura
Tripura government has announced that all state government offices and educational institutions in the state will remain closed until 2:30 pm on January 22.
