Over 60% Of Schools In Patna Have No Playgrounds: Reports

More than 2,000 schools in Patna, Bihar do not have proper infrastructure to support playgrounds. As per reports, out of 1,520 high and middle schools in Patna, only 325 have teachers related to physical education. This deplorable state of circumstances is prevalent in many secondary and higher secondary schools in Patna as well.

There are around 4,193 government schools in Patna and among these, around 1,520 are high and middle schools. In these schools, there are no sophisticated sports equipment and proper fields for supporting games like volleyball, football, cricket etc. Due to this lack of facilities, budding sportspersons are not able to get enough support to work on their talent.

The students are not able to practice for the games or play matches as well related to these games, the reports added. The problems of the students also extend to other areas as they are not able to practice in the playgrounds outside the school campus as well. On these grounds, many hooligans are present at late night which doesn’t provide a conducive environment for practising.

The administration has also not been able to work on the maintenance of the existing playgrounds. One such case has been reported in the Patna High School situated in the Gardanibagh, Patna, Bihar. The ground has not been properly levelled and the students face hinderances due to the uneven structure.

Similar problems like the lack of garbage disposal mechanisms and the potholes in the playground are seen in the Patna Collegiate School, Dariyapur, Bihar. The dilapidated condition of the grounds is also visible in the Government Boys Senior Secondary School in Rajendra Nagar. Devipad Choudhary Shaheed Smarak Miller High School has also been impacted by these conditions.

District Education Officer Amit Kumar has taken some essential steps regarding the issue. He has directed the headmasters of all schools for the levelling and the cleaning of the playgrounds in Patna. He has ordered them to complete the levelling within the next week with the money saved from the Development Fund and the Student Fund.
