Due to the ongoing heatwave, several private schools in Noida and Ghaziabad have announced that summer vacation for students will begin this week. Some other schools have cancelled all outdoor activities for students of higher classes as temperatures continue to rise. This comes after the Uttar Pradesh Education Department issued a notification last week asking all primary schools to announce summer vacation from May 20 given the heatwave.
Dharamvir Singh, the district school inspector (DIOS), told TOI that some of the schools have already announced vacations, especially for younger students, to give them some relief from the heat. He added that these schools in Noida are likely to remain closed for a month and will not reopen before June 15.
In the wake of these developments, Modern School principal Neeraj Awasthi told TOI that the school has announced summer vacation for all classes from May 17 and the vacation will last for at least 40 days.
Similarly, Bal Bharti School principal Asha Prabhakar told the news portal that all classes would have summer break from May 13. The development comes at a time when summer vacation 2024 has been announced for all government and government-aided schools in Delhi. This year, schools in Delhi will have 51 days of summer vacation, which will last from Saturday, May 11, to Sunday, June 30. After the vacation, teachers will have to report for work for two days on June 28 and 29, to attend to necessary academic matters.
Summer vacation for schools in Delhi has been announced only for government and government-aided schools, which means that students of private schools will have to wait for the summer vacation for now. It is believed that the vacation will be announced in all private schools in Delhi between May 15 and 21, 2024. Private school students have to wait for the notice. Considering the weather, it is estimated that holidays will be declared in all schools by next week.
