Kanpur’s Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University Extends PhD Application Deadline

Candidates who are interested to apply for the PhD programme in Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) still have the time to do so. The university has extended the last date of submission of the online application from September 19 to September 25, 2024. Students can apply online by visiting the official website of the university: csjmu.ac.in. The Kanpur University has invited applications for a total of 555 PhD seats in 50 subjects, for which students from all over the country can apply. Admission is to be done on 168 seats in various departments of the university and 387 seats in its affiliated colleges.

Number of PhD seats available in the university:

1. English: 13 seats

   Physics: 12 seats

   Life sciences: 14 seats

   Journalism: 8 seats

   Total: 2 seats

   Physiotherapy: 2 seats

   Pharmacy: 7 seats

   Education: 10 seats

   Mathematics: 11 seats

   Computer Application: 11 seats

   Chemistry: 10 seats

   Biotechnology: 8 seats

   Chemical Engineering: 8 seats

   As per the official notification released by the university, the duration of the PhD programme will be three years, including coursework and a maximum of six years. In case a student fails to submit his/her thesis within six years, from his/her registration date, that student shall cease to be a bona fide student of the university and shall not be entitled to the rights and facilities given to a regular student. Moreover, his/her registration shall also be cancelled automatically. For women and disabled candidates there is a relaxation of two years.

   Eligibility Criteria:

   The admission shall be based on the criteria with 70 percent weightage to the Entrance test and 30 percent weightage to the performance in the interview/viva-voce.

    A candidate seeking admission to the PhD programme shall be required to secure at least 50 percent in the CSJMU ET. There will be 5 percent relaxation in marks for reserved category (OBC/SC/ST) candidates.

   An additional seat and/or preferences will be given to the candidates for the Enrolment under the PhD Scheme among the following categories:

   1. Candidates who are single girl child

      Dependent of martyr

      Candidates with differently / special sbled (Autism, Visual impairment, etc.)
