The teacher recruitment examination conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has been cancelled due to reports of a paper leak. Candidates had alleged that the paper was leaked after the exam was held on March 15 in two shifts. However, after an investigation by the Economic Offenses Unit, it has been revealed that the paper was leaked on March 13 and 14 before the exam was conducted. So far, 266 people have been arrested in this case.
The first shift of the exam was conducted from 9:30 am to noon, and the second shift from 2:30 pm to 5 PM. Exams of both shifts stand cancelled now. According to reports, more than 5,81,000 applications were received for the third phase of the teacher recruitment examination. Of these, more than one lakh applications are for the paper I exam. Through the recruitment drive, BPSC aims to recruit 86,474 posts of teachers across schools.
Bihar Police is investigating this matter and has revealed about a gang involved in setting up the exam including the paper leak. Police say that the paper was leaked by an exam solver gang even before the examination and answers were also provided to many candidates along with the question paper. The Bihar Police has also arrested many people in connection with this case, after which the commission has finally decided to cancel the examination.
The EOU had raided several places in Hazaribagh on March 15, the commission told PTI. “The first information regarding the question paper leak was provided to the commission by the EOU at around 2.30 pm on March 15. Before that, the first shift examination had ended at 12 pm and the second shift examination had started at 2.30 pm”, BPSC told the news agency.
BPSC will announce the new dates of the teacher recruitment examination in due course of time.

The exam is held for 2 hours 30 minutes and consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions. A total of 150 questions are asked in the exam, which carries a total of 150 marks. There will be no negative marking.
