Young batter Musheer Khan’s powerful century in the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup has earned him praise from T20I specialist Suryakumar Yadav. On Tuesday, in India’s Super Six game of the ongoing tournament in South Africa, Musheer smashed 131 runs against New Zealand. The young U-19 player’s scintillating knock led to the world’s number-one T20I batter, Surya, getting all excited to see a fellow Mumbaikar rise on one of cricket’s biggest stages while donning the Indian blue. His exhilaration was visible in his Instagram Story where he congratulated Musheer on his incredible innings and motivated his young compatriots to continue their brilliant performance. Surya wrote, “What a knock, Happy dugout, Keep going Boyzz”.
Musheer Khan is the younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan who recently received his maiden call-up to India’s Test squad. Sarfaraz could soon be seen making a debut against England at Visakhapatnam in the ongoing bilateral series. Meanwhile, Musheer would be looking to make a deeper run into the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup 2024. The young cricketer’s ton against New Zealand was his second of the tournament and he currently leads the race for the top scorer position. Musheer has accumulated a total of 325 runs while maintaining an average of 81.25 in the four matches he has played in South Africa.
On January 30, India took on New Zealand at the Mangaung Oval in the U-19 World Cup. This was India’s first game of the Super Six stage and the young lads didn’t fail to deliver. Having lost the toss, India found themselves to be batting first in the game. The innings began with Adarsh Singh scoring a brilliant half-century to give his side a brilliant start. Arshin Kulkarni departed early leading to Musheer Khan’s arrival at the crease. Musheer next produced a powerful ton while smashing 13 boundaries and three sixes, helping India put up 295 runs at a loss of eight wickets.
The Indian Colts didn’t skip a beat in the second half as they dismissed the New Zealand squad at just 81 to seal a victory by 214 runs. None of the Kiwi batters managed to make more than 19 runs with three of them departing on ducks. India’s Saumy Kumar Pandey put up the best bowling figures as he took four New Zealand scalps while giving away just 19 runs in 10 overs. Musheer was at it once again as the all-rounder continued to haunt the Kiwis in the second half as well. Musheer scalped two wickets of his own and gave away just 10 runs in three overs.
