Virat Kohli will be in action for India on Sunday (August 4) during the second ODI against Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The 35-year-old right-handed batter scored 24 runs in the series opener on Friday, and he would like to come up with a big show in the second 50-over match on Sunday to help India get the better of Sri Lanka and go 1-0 up in the ongoing three-match series.
During the second ODI against Sri Lanka, Kohli will have a chance to create history and become the fastest batter in the world to score 14,000 runs in ODIs. The former India captain, who made his ODI debut for India against Sri Lanka in Dambulla on August 18, 2008, has 13,872 runs to his name in 293 matches played so far. He needs 128 more runs to cross the 14,000-run mark. If he manages to achieve the feat on Sunday, then he will break Sachin Tendulkar’s 18-year-old record.
Sachin scored 14,000 runs in ODIs during his 359th match for India, which was played against Pakistan in Peshawar on February 6. A total of two batters have managed to score more than 14,000 runs in ODIs so far.
Fastest to score 14,000 runs in ODIs
- Sachin Tendulkar (India) – 359 matches (350 innings)

Tendulkar sits at the top with 18,426 runs in 463 matches, and former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara is in No. 2 position with 14,234 runs.
During the ODI World Cup last year, Kohli, who won the Player of the Tournament award for amassing a total of 765 runs in 11 matches, broke former Australian captain Ricky Ponting’s and Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya’s records of 13,704 and 13,430 runs, respectively, to become the third leading run scorer in ODIs.
