T20 World Cup Coming Home: Team India To Land in New Delhi on Thursday Morning
Team India has taken off from Barbados and will fly directly to New Delhi where they are expected to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

After remaining stranded in Bridgetown, Barbados for 2 days since lifting the T20 World Cup, the members of the Indian cricket team finally left the island on Wednesday. The team will take off from the Caribbean on Wednesday and will fly directly to New Delhi where they are expected to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to news agency ANI, Team India will return to the country on July 4. A special flight carrying the team will land in Delhi early morning. The flight arranged by the BCCI will also carry the members of Indian media who were stranded in Barbados.

News Agency PTI reported that the team’s departure from the Caribbean island has been delayed as the charter flight is yet to arrive here.

An Air India special charter flight named AIC24WC — Air India Champions 24 World Cup — is set to bring back the Indian squad, its support staff, the players’ families and some board officials and Indian media, who have been stranded here for the past three days due to Hurricane Beryl.

The flight, which took off from New Jersey, USA on July 2, is expected to land in Barbados around 2 am local time.

As per the schedule, the flight is now expected to take off from Barbados at 4:30 am (local time). It will take a 16-hour flying time to reach Delhi, where the team will land on Thursday at 6 am (IST) if there are no further delays in their departure.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the BCCI’s posted a short video on Instagram, stating that the World Cup trophy ‘is coming home’, indicating that the team has taken off from hurricane hit Barbados.

News18 CricketNext had reported on Monday that the entire contingent – players and their families, support staff, and BCCI officials – was stranded at the beachfront property in Barbados and services were affected at the team hotel too.

Hurricane warnings were issued in the area and the residents and tourists have been advised to remain indoors.  The team was not supposed to travel on Sunday since it was a reserve day of the 2024 T20 World Cup final and the original plan of leaving on Monday didn’t happen because of the hurricane.

Meanwhile, the BCCI had been exploring the possibility of arranging a charter flight for the team directly from Barbados to New Delhi but was facing issues due to the closure of the airport. BCCI secretary Jay Shah was overseeing the arrangements for the side and was with them at the team hotel.
