History was made and witnessed for all to see today as Pat Cummins clinched a hattrick against Bangladesh in Australia’s Super Eight clash against Bangladesh. Well, everyone except for Cummins himself apparently.
In a hilarious moment, Australia’s Pat Cummins spoke about how he was unaware of having achieved his historic milestone after Australia claimed a 28-run win over Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s innings was poised carefully at a pivotal moment in the game, right after losing skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, and with Towhid Hridoy taking the counterattack to Australia.
But, all would crash for Bangladesh when Cummins took the ball in the death overs.
In the penultimate delivery of the 18th over, Mahmudullah chopped one from Cummins onto his stumps and off the final delivery of the over, Mahedi Hasan found the fielder at third man.
For his hattrick, Cummins got rid of the dangerous Hridoy off the first delivery of his next over, the 20th of the innings, to once and for all sink Bangladesh’s hopes of a big total.

“I had no idea (on the hat-trick), then saw when it came up on the screen. Especially Hridoy, He was the set batter in, playing the innings, you never know how it’ll go about, so that was a big wicket, and happy to have restricted them,” stated a jovial Cummins while receiving his Player of The Match award post-game.
With his feat, Cummins became the seventh bowler in world cricket and just the second Australian bowler to claim a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup.
Brett Lee was the first Australian to achieve the same, when he claimed the hat-trick against the same opposition in the 2007 edition.
“Few (hat-tricks) in juniors, never for Australia. Agar and Ellis, on the bench, have hat-tricks, and joined their club. It’s pretty awesome to tick that off. It’s a good club to be part of,” added Cummins.
